[HELP]My Laptop has something wrong with it!
Ok, I wake up and start up my laptop cause I needed to finish my mid-term assignment.
When I turn it on, the start up screen takes a really long time. When I finally get on My desktop is BLANK. Just my wallpaper was there. No Start menu, none of my shortcuts are there. Its just a blank screen, besides my wallpaper. I know no one else in my house went on because Im the only one who knows my laptops password. And when I logged off last night to go to bed it was working perfectly. So I log in...blank. I open up the task manager by using my hotkey..and all my programs, documents, everything is there. I was able to open up my anti virus and start a scan, but Im not sure if whats wrong is a virus. If anyone has a solution can you please help me out ![]()

Hmm... yes
When you start your laptop, did you start it from hibernation, a standby, or a shutdown? Also, when you open task manager, check the processes and see if Explorer.exe is running. If it is, terminate that process. Then click File, then click New Task(Run...) Then in the box type in "explorer" (without the quotation marks) This restarts the explorer process, and should refresh it. |

There is a program called Tuneup Utilities 2008 that contains a fix for just that issue. It can repair lost icons and other faulty windows components. It called Repair Wizard. It can maby help you alittle but im not sure, has never happen to me besides on my Windows 98 computer (But then it was my sister that downloaded a virus that removed bits of windows, Virus... Its a real pain)

I have a problem like this sometimes...early in the Morning. It is because my laptop is too cold to work properly. I restart it and it has warmed up by then and it works fine.

I've had this problem before.
Check and see if your cursor goes completely off of the screen. If it does then make sure you have dual-monitor suport turned off. Right clcik -> Properties -> Display |
