AOL - Gay-OL
my dad put us on AOL about 2 years ago now - it has been fine except i hated the parental controls which i soon managed to get past. But recently we have been having problems. About a month ago they completely cut off our net for a week, we phoned and there was a pre-record message saying they were doin line maintenance in our area. So we waited and it came back on. Ever since the connection has been cutting out every 2 hours or so, then instantly coming back. 2 days ago we tried to connect to AOL using the AOL 9.0 software and no connection at all, on any computers in the house. however we could connect through any other form of software, hardware : PS3 (phewww) and IE and Firefox.
Phoned support and they said the software was corrupt ( what, on all the pc's at the same time thats a fluke ) so they sent us an up to date disc with all the latest software and apparently thats meant to solve it, it didnt change anything. Went on support just like an hour ago and they said they will send me an email with the up to date software cause the disc was corrupt that they sent us. cleared all my aol stuff off the pc and installed again the "UP TO DATE" software. still no connection. My dad = crazy Is anyone else on AOL or been on AOL and experienced these problems ?? Any advice ?? Also i looked at the prices , and blimey AOL are like really expensive for the speeds u get (terrible speed) Anyway so my dad is considering cancelling. he wants to stay on aol cause of the parental safety thing though. If we change who should we change to ?? - on the value for speed+quality side of things |

The Speeds arent terrible. 8MB is good for ADSL. If you arent getting the full 8mb advertised, its due to the line latency and throughput in your area, which meens no matter which other company you move to & no matter what speeds they advertise, you wont gain any faster speeds unless you use a different method of connection, such as cable.
Cable may not be available in your area though, which is quite often the case. (Its not available in my area, and my max line rate is 5.5mb, even though i pay for 8mb connection. I have no alternative whatever company i move to.).. Depending on whether you can get a faster line rate or cable in your area.. depends on the quality of the move. Its not what people recommend.. more the cost and reliability of things within your area. Best to find some deals that are on.
