During E3 2007 the new slimmer and lighter PSP was confirmed - the system will be 33% Lighter and 19% Slimmer than the original system, other changes include the new TV output - allowing you to display your gameplay, movies and web browser etc. on your big screen with the flick of a small switch located on the base of the PSP. Also the Built in Memory on the PSP has been doubled so the cache for game loading can be enlarged - resulting in quicker UMD Load times. The new PSP has no official name yet so the model number is used : PSP-2000. Three colours will be available when the system is released - Piano Black, Ceramic White and Ice Silver. Sadly though the rumored 8gb built in hard drive is just a rumor along with the apparent built in camera. The release will be worldwide during September later this year.

The limited-release Star Wars Battlefront PSP Entertainment Pack, available on October 9th contains a Ceramic White PSP featuring a silk-screened image of Darth Vader on the back of the unit and Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron game.

The limited-edition Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack, will be available on September 10th and will contain a PSP in Ice Silver, Daxter game, Family Guy - The Freakin’ Sweet Collection on UMD and 1GB memory stick.

Finally The new PSP screen has a higher resolution along with more media support and possible support for M2/Micro Memory Sticks

Personally I Am thinking about upgrading to a Piano Black one of these cause my PSP has been killed by a corrupt 2gb memory stick i got off eBay for ?13 and i would gain from a larger cache - especially on the internet browser !

Redesigned handheld will arrive at UK retail before September 20th Japanese launch
MCV understands that ‘version two’ of Sony’s PSP will arrive in British stores before the console reaches Japan in September – and will be priced at €169 (around ?114).

Sony this week announced that the machine would be launched in Japan on September 20th, priced at Y19,800 (around ?80).
And now both Sony Europe president David Reeves and reliable retail sources have revealed the details of the console’s UK launch to MCV.

“This is an important new model,” said Reeves. “Once people get it into their hands they will feel the difference. It will come out at €169 in all PAL territories at the beginning of September.

“In Leipzig there will be a big demo of the video-out function and of new colours which will arrive after launch.”

One senior retailer told MCV: “We haven’t had much information through about it, but we are aware that it will be coming into our stores at the start of September – maybe even late August.”

Black, silver and white versions of the console will launch PAL territories, whilst the US will miss out on the white edition.

The new PSP model boasts a 4.3 inch wide high resolution LCD screen and is 33 per cent lighter and 19 per cent slimmer than its popular handheld predecessor.

Yea It is basically the same (i like the TV Output function though) - but I need a new PSP sometime soon and theres not much point in buying the old one a month before the upgrade comes out !
