How do I delete music from my library but not my Zune?

How do I delete music from my library but not my Zune? I don't wanna keep every song on hard drive that I have on my Zune. I just don't have 80 GB to dedicate to my Zune. Some help would be appreciated!

You can delete music from your library and it should remain on your Zune as long as you do not go onto the Device --> Music menu and delete them.

I suggest testing with a single song first though, incase it works differently for you.

I currently have songs on my Zune which arent on my PC, but maybe thats just me..

Unfortunately as soon as I delete it from my library it does still take it off my Zune upon syncing it...

yeah i have the same problem coz before, with the old software, there was a sync now list and if you put songs on there and there deleted them off your computer then it wouldn't delete them off your zune but i don't know what to do with the new software, i know that you can drag movies into your collection and then delete them off your computer and the movie won't be deleted but when i drag pictures and songs then although a sign shows that i can drop the files into the collection they never appear

Edit: i've just spent last 1/2 hour trying to get it sorted and what i do is cut and paste an album into my documents but not into my music folder, then drag and drop the album into the albums part of the device or collection part of the zune software (for me artists on the left, then albums in middle with album art showing and then songs on right) sync it up and the album should go onto your zune and then just delete the album from your documents and hey presto the album should stay on your zune.
tips: if you drag the album from a memory stick into your zune collection it will stay in your collection but skip when you try to sync it onto your zune
don't put album in my music folder because i'm quite sure it will delete of zune when you delete it
remember to drag and drop, nothing will/should happen (unless you have my documents as one of your default folders for which the zune software automatically checks for new files)

I have further worked this out. Folders which are set to check automatically for new media automatically delete missing media from the Zune.

Therefore dont use the My Music folder, but you can use anything else. Then just drag and drop your music into the Software, but make sure that you do not set the folder to auto update.

i need to delete my library becaus no matter how hard i try to organize my music in windows media player and in my music folders i still have copies of artists and music on the zune program itself. i need to erase all of my music and re-upload all my music. Help asap. also why is my zune not responding during sync's so it is extremly difficult to upload music?

i have my zune software set to "allow me to choose..." for images, videos, music, and podcasts. this seems to keep the zune from syncing/updating anything unless i tell it. also, i've removed all folders from my "automatically update" list, and just leave it at that.

I have the same kind of issue, and its damn annoying.
when i remove a file or change its folder on my pc, the dam thing synchs and removes all those files. Even if i change the name of the file it seams to remove from the zune on syncing.. its getting so frustrating.
Also why can't I Organize folders on the zune, Ie types of videos "movie, anime, porn, etc" you get the idea? I have it like that on my pc, and media player recognizes it ok. but the zune heaps everything together in 1 folder, and deletes anything thats not in my main folder. (I can't find this "auto synch" you keep refering to I have a 80G zune software version 2.5.

I have not made any changes to the default kit.

Any ideas ?

There's 2 folders on the zune i think, 'all' and then 'movies' and 'music videos' i think, you can probably edit the meta data to put them in one of those, custom folders would be really nice though
